My Mind Speaks …. Watch and Learn

In this blog you will hear a lot about people I have come across in this journey called life. Today we bring to life a lady called Nthabiseng. It is true that our names somewhat have an influence on who you grow up to be. I recently reconnected with Nthabiseng on WhatsApp the other day. I initially met Nthabiseng back in 2012 when I moved to Kimberley. Nthabiseng, Sister Vee and I shared a three-bedroom house and we all worked at the Office of the Auditor-General.

To be quite honest I do not remember having any “Deep and Meaningful” conversations with Nthabi. She was quiet, I thought but she had quite a presence about her. Something about her made her look respectable. She only stayed in that house for a couple of months after I moved in. She had this ability to keep the house together. Especially because she only spoke when it was necessary and with a smile and she made a lot of sense. She was firm with her stance. After she moved out all hell broke loose (A story for another day). Her general routine was:

·       Wake up and get ready for work

·       After work hang out with her man

·       They were inseparable…forever together

As I was saying I recently reconnected with her after 7 years of not talking or seeing each other. Her number seems to still be saved on my phone and it seems mine in hers. She posted a series of pictures with her daughters. I commented on one of the pictures to let her know her kids were beautiful. That comment led to a long catch up conversation. It turns out she married her boyfriend (same one she was always with) in 2015 and together they have 2 daughters. We spoke about her son whom she had before meeting her husband and how he is now a big brother.

Beautiful Daughters

Things got interesting when she asked me about my relationship with Ziggy lol more specifically, she wanted to know if we ended up getting married. She goes on to mention that in our house we really were the "perfect couple” and that me and Ziggy were quite tight. I explain to her that it didn’t work out between us (This story is not about this relationship; I will write a detailed one on him someday). I also let her know that I also thought her relationship with her boyfriend was the perfect relationship. As we got to the conclusion of this conversation, she says to me and I quote “But I am sure you are having the time of your life with nothing holding you back. Slaying in your lane plus you are beautiful”.

These words just melted my heart, especially knowing the kind of person she is, that she doesn’t just speak for the sake of speaking. Another key point I need to mention before I get to the conclusion is when she asked if I still remembered my Hillsong playlist that I used to play in my room back in the days. She goes on to tell me about how she used to love it 😊.

At this point I was thinking Wow, everybody has an unknown audience. There is always someone watching your life from a distance, taking notes, feeling inspired. In my case I watched Nthabiseng from afar, I watched how she carried herself and I aspired to be like that. Without her ever saying that this is how a lady should be, her actions spoke volumes and similarly I guess she was also watching. Amazing how we learn a lot from just watching without words, without a formal training plan.

This kind of learning is what brings us to the self-actualization we so desperately need. May this story help you reflect on some of the lessons you learned from far. Lessons that you also hope that someone can watch from you and learn a great deal. Or maybe this story will help you realize that there is always someone watching and aspiring and that in turn that inspires you to act and be better for the sake of the next generation.
